Description

Our pre-seasoned cast iron pan with a 10″ cooking surface. Versatility is the number one trait of a cast iron pan. Sear steaks and burgers, throw it in the oven for casseroles or baking a pie. A true all-rounder that is needed in every man’s kitchen. Included in the package is a glass lid.

Although The Rook is pre-seasoned, extra seasoning will develop a natural non-stick surface and protect it from rust. Follow these simple steps to further season your cast iron pan:

  1. Start by washing your pan with warm water and mild dish soap. Scrub gently to remove any dirt or debris. Rinse thoroughly and dry completely using a clean towel.
  2. Preheat your oven to around 325°F (163°C). Meanwhile, apply a thin layer of cooking oil or solid vegetable shortening to the entire surface of the pan, inside and out. Make sure to coat all the nooks and crannies.
  3. Place the pan upside down on the middle rack of the preheated oven, with a baking sheet or aluminum foil on the lower rack to catch any potential drips. This will prevent oil from pooling in the pan.
  4. Let the cast iron pan bake in the oven for about an hour. This process allows the oil to polymerize and form a protective layer on the pan’s surface.
  5. After an hour, turn off the oven and let the pan cool down inside the oven. This gradual cooling process helps the seasoning adhere properly to the cast iron, promoting its durability.
  6. Once the pan has cooled completely, remove it from the oven. You may notice a dark, shiny surface on the pan, which indicates a well-seasoned cast iron.
  7. To maintain the seasoned surface, avoid using harsh detergents or scrub brushes. Instead, wash the pan with hot water and a gentle brush or sponge. Dry it thoroughly to prevent moisture from causing rust.
  8. After each use, it’s recommended to apply a light coating of cooking oil to the pan’s surface. This helps maintain the seasoning and protects it from moisture and oxidation.

By seasoning your cast iron pan, you’ll gradually develop a natural non-stick coating and enhance its performance over time. With proper care and regular seasoning, your cast iron pan will become a reliable and versatile tool in your kitchen.

Love the Rook cast iron pan. Arrives pre-seasoned and ready for use. Made a lemon-blueberry Dutch pancake and was able to go from stove top to oven. It was the best one I’ve ever made.

  2. Pat

Love this pan. So nice to have a lid for a cast iron pan. Made fried potatoes and they turned out crispy without sticking.
